Packing
list
by Silvia
What to pack? Well with a max. weight of about 15kg.
I can tell u not a lot!. So no hairdryer, creams, lotions, wax, Armani
bags or other vital things in any woman's life (why were we doing this
trip again?).
This is what we decided to take:
- We each have a large back pack with flight cover. We have opted for
a back pack which opens as a weekend bag, as opposed to a top loader.
Since we will predominantly be sleeping in hostels this was the most organized
and convenient option for us. The flight bag is also great for preventing
theft in airports, buses, trains and hotels. We have tried closing the
flight bags with tie wraps which has worked perfectly so far.
We have decided to take one day pack but will probably buy another one
en route.

Various:
- 2 large quick drying towels each

- sleeping bag liners (for those places that do not look too kosher)

- vacuum bags (from RiverCreek, these are fantastic for saving space in
your back pack)
- Freezer zip bags (these can be used for anything from dirty laundry,
to holding bottles which might open , foodstuffs, pills etc.)
- Swiss army knife and mini-Leatherman
- Games for those endless waits: cards, yathzee, backgammon, monopoly
(thanks Vi and Frans). All these will be taken without boxes and mostly
again in zip lock bags. They are of course all travel size.
- One book each (we'll exchange en route)
- Lonely planet only of the country we are visiting. We will sell them
or swap them before we go to the next country.
- Journal
-Washing powder / liquid
- Alarm clock
- Pens and balloons as hand outs (thanks to the hotels, companies, customers,
suppliers and airline companies for having them lying around!)
-Picture book with pictures of family and friends. (This is great for
showing people and of course for yourself on those homesick moments)
- Address card with picture of us on the front (encourages more to be
kept than the dirty piece of torn paper with a name scribbled on it)
After long consideration we have decided to leave our mosquito net at
home, since most travelers have said they never or rarely used it. This
will hopefully give us some much needed extra space.
We are also not taking sleeping bags as you can hopefully rent them where
we would really need them.
Very handy things not to be forgotten:
- shaving oil instead of foam/gel (king of Shaves)
- Tie wraps (small to close luggage - or immediately know if someone has
opened it!- big ones to close hotel door when sleeping, or tie anything
strongy)
- combination locks (so as not to lose the key)
- Baby wipes (with Aloe)
- extra shoe laces for hiking shoes
- extra shoe soles (for when the smell gets really unbearable!)
- foldable camping cups
- vacuum bags
- zip locks (with real zipper... freezer quality is usually stronger)
- Thermos watter cover (to keep cool/hot any standard 1.5 litter bootle)
- safety pins (to close luggage, )
- sink plugs (3 sizes)
- chopsticks
- elastic bands (small + heavy duty, to tie asprine-stips, cloths'in'a'roll,
)
- baloons and pens to give to kids
