One of the biggest arguing point in planning the trip is of course where
do you go when you have a whole year in front of you to explore the world?
Even though a year could sounds like a lot, once you start planning, the
time disappears and feels like nothing, trust me.
For starters Chris really wanted to go to Asia and South America, I wanted
to see Africa and Australia (you get my point!). If you check our travel
route it is easy to see who is the sales manager amongst us....Chris obviously
won this argument, and not in the least because he was paying the rent
and promised the pay for the trip. Somewhere along the line we decided
to split the cost but I still am not going to Africa (hmm, did something
very very wrong here). On the bright side I have now heard so many people
telling us enthusiastic stories about the continents we are visiting that
I can not wait to go and explore them. So once we decided on the continents
there were still the countries to pick. Luckily we were in agreement fairly
fast on those.
We made one change quite recently which is to change Vietnam to Laos.
This is because of other travellers being very enthusiastic about Laos
and much less so about Vietnam (almost impossible to travel on the beaten
tracks which means you end up in buses full of old german/english/belgium/russian
tourists, and the vietnamese have become very pushy, in-your-face and
persistant...). However with two continents being so far apart and little
things like winter time, versus monsoon taken into account, we sat with
our little chart for quite a while trying to make sure we wouldn't be
wet and cold too often (some people don't mind this and consider it part
of the experience, but we quickly realised that we were not one of those
rough die-hard adventurers). Therefore we are now starting with Nepal
in the best traveling month being October and planned the rest according
to their best seasons. Nature luckily has a great way of helping along
by making the weather perfect in a very orderly fashion.
